The concept offers a centre for resting grief and a columbarium, the is a place for people to embrace their grieving process and help them connect to other people within the community and nature for its therapeutic qualities. This is illustrated throughout the spaces, allowing nature into the building, and by using the location of the river and viewpoints towards the sky and surroundings to encourage healing. Set in the heart of Derby, this is a one of the landmarks of the city, the 1700 old silk mill will be renovated into a place for people of all backgrounds to enjoy and connect with others and themselves.

The design is inspired by nature and particular poppy which is vastly resembled as a remembrance flower by many. Looking into the life cycle of a poppy which relates to life and death concept, has helped to identify the spacial flow and layout of the spaces.
