Located half a mile off the shores of Sheerness Bay, Grain Tower Battery stands isolated, surrounded by the seawaters of the River Thames. ‘The Salt Project’ is a biomimetic attempt to create architecture using seawater. Utilising the locally available resources, the building will create salt building blocks through extracting brine out of the surrounding seawater, and use the residual fresh water to maintain a sustainable eco-system. The site itself also will become an isolated studio for local architects and designers, providing a space to teach and educate people about the self-sustaining concept.
