A Social Hub for the Elderly

This project is a newly designed social hub for the elderly, which has adapted a site in Nottingham. The purpose of this social hub is to bring together the elders and reconnect them to the community. The design of the hub integrates more elements such as the canal and greenery, into the elderly’s lifestyle in order to bring them closer to nature. In particular, the design has incorporated the indoor and outdoor environment which aims to provide a healthy and comfortable environment.

Many people appear to have lost their interest and hope in life when they have reached their old age as they might be gradually losing their friends or family. So, they become less sociable and make less effort to contact with others. As a result, they isolate themselves from the community. This could possibly lead to the elderly suffering from depression. Also, some of them are unable to control some basic life skills such as cooking skill. Therefore, this social hub can be seen as a recreation venue that provides opportunities and reliance to the elderly for them to make new friends, who perhaps are in similar situations and experiences. Hopefully, the hub enables the elderly to live the rest of their lives with happiness.
