LA CANTINA

The site is the former Dyson refractory, located in Stannington, a suburb of Sheffield. It is in the western edge of the green belt between the river Riveling and the river Loxley.Built in the first period of the 1800s, the factory played an important role in the development of the steel industry.

The factory specialised in the manufacturing of refractory bricks and fire clay bricks.

the proposed use for the site is to retain a specific area and create a winery, and in the remaining part of the site grow a vineyard.

the aim of the project is to create a journey through the space that has a connection and relationship between the inside and outside.

To create the experience of this relationship between the interior and exterior, I have designed my space with a series of ramps running thought the building which connect the two focal spaces. To maintain the local and historic character of the building, a range of materials like refractory/ re clay brick and steel will be used in addition to new materials such as grey oak and cork.
